NSO -National Science Olympiad

Conducted annually by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), NSO is a scholarship exam aimed at cultivating scientific reasoning and logical ability among students studying in class 1 to class 12, through a rigorous test. SOF NSO is conducted at Level 1 and 2. Level 1 is conducted for all students studying in classes 1 to 12 whereas those students who qualify level 1 exam (from class 3 -12), qualify to sit for the level 2 exam.

Only the schools which have registered with SOF can apply for NSO. Schools have to select a convenient date for the exam and register for it 30 days prior to the date of the exam. Students can register for the SOF NSO exam from their respective schools only. Individual registrations are not accepted. A minimum of 10 students needs to register from each school for SOF NSO.

NSO Admission Process 2020

The organising body sends the prospectus of SOF NSO 2020 to all the schools which are registered with SOF. The prospectus contains the registration forms of the students. The schools then need to return the filled-in form to SOF along with the application fees before the last date. It is mandatory for at least 10 students to be registered from each school for the exam.

NSO Eligibility Criteria 2020

According to NSO eligibility criteria, students of classes 1st to 12th are eligible to appear for the 1st level Olympiad. No minimum marks are required

Students who qualify for the 2nd level exam include:

Top 5% of students class-wise, who appear for the 1st level exam,

Top 25 rank holders zone-wise and class-wise, and

Class toppers from each participating school where at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam & scores 50% qualifying marks. In case registration is received section-wise, students with highest marks, irrespective of the section will qualify for the 2nd level. For the section-wise registrations, winner(s) of the gold medal may not necessarily qualify for the second level.

NEET Mode of Examination

Students from classes 1 and 2 are not required to appear for the 2nd level NSO exam and are ranked based on their performance in the first level.
